Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, former Rangers catcher Jim Sundberg, owner Ray Davis, and others broke ground Wednesday at the site of a new resort-style apartment community, reports NBC DFW.

The apartments are supposed to open in 2024 along with a new convention center and the National Medal of Honor Museum.

According to its website, One Rangers Way is a partnership with the Texas Rangers and real estate development group, the Cordish Companies.

The complex will consist of 300 apartments and will be complete with some high-class amenities including an outdoor swimming pool with a swim-up bar.

The development is part of a project costing more than $1 billion, according to a press release from the City of Arlington.

“Today marks an important milestone in the continued development and expansion of the Arlington Entertainment District,” Davis said. “The construction of One Rangers Way will bring an upscale residential component to an area that is already widely known as one of the fastest-growing sports and entertainment destinations in the country. The Texas Rangers are proud to partner with the City of Arlington and The Cordish Companies on this incredible project.”

Ross told reporters that the entertainment district in Arlington, known for being the home of AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field, and Choctaw Stadium, is evolving into something more than just a place to see sports. “This has turned into more than just a sporting venue location,” Ross said.

Globe Life Field, which opened in 2020, is now surrounded by construction projects, including the Convention Center and the site of the Loews Arlington Hotel.

The new development is supposed to be within walking distance of all the nearby attractions including sports stadiums.

“Had you asked me 10 years ago, [if] we’re going to have high-end living in the middle of the entertainment district – I’d think what are you talking about,” Ross said.

This isn’t the first time the Cordish Companies have worked on a baseball-themed development. According to its portfolio, the multi-generational real estate group has also worked on a mixed-use, a residential district in St. Louis, Missouri, called the Ballpark Village and other properties nearby the Cardinals’ stadium. There is even a property called One Cardinal Way, reminiscent of Arlington’s newest development.
