The JW Marriott luxury hotel project in Downtown Dallas, now the largest ongoing project in the area, is set to open early next year.

One year after the $125 million-plus project broke ground, owners of the high-end new hotel are gearing up to open in early 2023.

Completing the project was a challenge because of COVID and its impact on the hotel industry, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Daniel Moon, VP and General Counsel of the Sam Moon Group, explained: “It’s been rough going for hospitality the last couple of years. We were recovering well from the pandemic at the end of last year, then the delta [variant] hit. This week we are now back to where there are no more cancellations in our hotels in Plano and Frisco. From this week on, both hotels have very good numbers going forward. I think we are finally going to move past this thing.”

The Moons went ahead with the Downtown development during the pandemic as many other hotel developers hit the pause button.

Now, according to developers, the 267-room JW Marriott may be coming at just the right time. By the high-rise’s opening date, the Dallas market is expected to have improved for the hospitality industry, as few other new hotels will be opening.

The 15-floor hotel is being constructed over a recently-built 10-story parking structure at the corner of Ross and Harwood Street. The parking garage was completed in 2019 to accommodate the iconic Trammell Crow Center skyscraper directly across the street, with extra space provided for the hotel.

Designed by Dallas architect HKS, the project’s general contractor is DPR Construction.

The Sam Moon Group has two existing hotels in North Texas, the Legacy West Renaissance Hotel in Plano and the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the Stonebriar Centre in Frisco.
