Medical distributor McKesson plans to renovate part of its headquarters in Irving in an effort to sublease the building.

According to CoStar, the improvements may help McKesson consolidate its corporate offices in one place. A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing shows the project, called “McKesson Event Center,” includes partial demolition of a 65,500-square-foot space at 6555 State Highway 161 in Las Colinas and the addition of cafe seating, conference and meeting space, and restrooms.

A McKesson spokesperson did not return a message seeking comment about the project. But Steve Triolet, senior vice president of research and market forecasting for Partners of Houston, told CoStar the project “is one of the biggest plug-and-play office spaces available in the Irving area.”

According to the state filing, the $12 million renovation has a delivery date of next August.

The Dallas Morning News reported that CBRE of Dallas is responsible for leasing more than 270,000 square feet of the Las Colinas complex, where more than 1,500 people work. It is part of a larger effort to complete more than $20 million in renovations in Las Colinas.

About four years ago, McKesson moved its headquarters to Irving from San Francisco. Ranked ninth on the Fortune 500 list, the company has been “streamlining the real estate assets supporting more flexibility for our employees,” McKesson CEO Brian Taylor said in a May earnings call, CoStar reported.

Dallas-based Gensler is listed as the design firm on the state filing.
