A residential development in Celina is getting its own luxury golf resort.

Farmers Branch development group Centurion American will build a new country club called “1876” as part of the 3,200-acre Legacy Hills residential community in Celina, according to a news release from the company.

The 1876 Country Club, which gets its name from the year the town of Celina was founded, will feature a clubhouse, an 18-hole golf course, a driving range, tennis courts, a fitness center, a swimming pool, and more. A boutique hotel is also being considered for the site.

“1876 will offer Celina and all of the region a truly unique and special place to gather,” said Centurion American CEO Mehrdad Moayedi in the press release. “This spectacular country club will become the central hub for the Legacy Hills development.”

Legacy Hills is a sprawling mixed-use development located near Legacy Drive and Celina Parkway. The master-planned community is slated to include 7,000 single-family homes, 4,100 multifamily units, 100 acres of commercial development, a 27-acre city sports park, a 3-mile walking and biking trail, and seven amenity centers.

Since Centurion American broke ground on Legacy Hills in April 2022, the development group has been fielding frequent inquiries from people interested in becoming members of the golf facility, according to Sandy Lewis, the club’s director of sales, operations, and membership.

“We’ve already had amazing interest in 1876,” said Lewis, per the Celina Record.

According to a development timeline, construction on the golf course will wrap up in November 2024, followed by the remaining clubhouse facilities, which include a fitness center, a group fitness area, locker rooms with saunas, private member areas, and more.

Although completion of the golf course is still 12 months out, Lewis says select individuals and businesses are currently being offered founding memberships.

The Dallas Express contacted Centurion American, but the company was not immediately available for comment.

The town of Celina has become a recent hot spot for growth, with multiple projects going up in the area, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Some of these projects include a planned $50 million park, and the Sutton Fields residential development, among others. Celina experienced a 104% population boom from 2020-22.

While Celina is benefiting from explosive growth and development demand, Dallas regularly fails to reach the same level of interest from builders. Despite the tax incentives, subsidies, and attractive permit fees, Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax has generally struggled to entice builders to develop in Dallas.

While some progress has been made, Broadnax and Development Services still have much more work to do to boost construction demand in Dallas.
