A new luxury apartment complex is coming to Anna, with a unique amenity likely found only in the Lone Star State. The courtyard of the complex will feature a resort-style lazy river and pool in the shape of Texas.

The Quinn apartments are expected to open in early 2025 and will offer more than 300 units in a four-story complex. Beall Development broke ground on the project in March.

In addition to the unique water feature, the complex’s courtyard will offer a putting green and lawn games. Other amenities at The Quinn include a fitness center, private offices for residents, a dog park, club and lounge areas, and a mix of covered and garage parking.

The Quinn is just the first phase of Anna Village, a planned mixed-use development that will include restaurants, retail space, and office space. The five-acre development will be located at 125 S. Standridge Blvd., just off the U.S. Highway 75 frontage road.

Anna Mayor Nate Pike told The Dallas Express that Anna Village will bring “a high-quality development with unique amenities on the burgeoning U.S. Highway 75 corridor. It will attract multiple new neighbors to Anna, adding to our strong population boom that has allowed the city to remain as one of the top ten fastest-growing cities in North Texas for the past five years.”

“This density is helping Anna make a strong case for additional retail, restaurant, and commercial development in the community,” he added.

Logan Beall, the president of Beall Development, told WFAA that the name of the apartment complex is a nod to the history of the city of Anna.

“It is believed that the town was named for Anna Quinlan, the daughter of a [Houston & Texas Central Railway] superintendent who built the railroad through the town,” Beall wrote in an email to the news outlet.

The Quinn’s distinctive lazy river will likely become a notable landmark for the community of Anna.

Currently, the Marriott Marquis hotel in downtown Houston claims to have the largest lazy river in the shape of Texas, and possibly the only one. An internet search did not turn up any other similarly-shaped lazy river facilities. Marriott’s version is perched on the hotel rooftop six floors above the city.

However, Marriott was not the first to show its love for the iconic shape of Texas with a water feature. In 1960, famous Texan Herbert Hunt constructed a 168,000-gallon public pool in the shape of Texas in Plano. It was a first for the state, and in 2019, the Texas Pool was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places.

More recently, another Texan, Cody Rogers, built a nearly 30,000-gallon Texas-shaped pool in the backyard of his Pasadena home in 2019.
