H-E-B is pushing forward with its North Texas expansion, most recently securing acreage in a multi-billion master-planned community.
The San Antonio-based grocery store chain recently purchased around 27 acres at the southeast corner of FM 3433 and U.S. Route 287 in Wise Country, Dallas Business Journal reported. The site will be used for a future H-E-B store. Last year, the company said it was pursuing growth in North Texas, with multiple locations reportedly in the works.
The news of the land purchase follows the grocer’s recent announcement of the purchase of 10 acres at Hillcrest Road and LBJ Freeway in Dallas. Once complete, the location will be the home of the first H-E-B in Dallas proper.
On January 23, Rhome City Council approved a development agreement with H-E-B. Rhome Mayor Kenneth Crenshaw said the grocer plans to build a new store “in the near future,” per The Messenger.
“We do want to welcome them to our community, and hope they build soon so the whole county can benefit from this wonderful store,” said Crenshaw.
While H-E-B has given no target date for construction, building the new grocery store in Wise County now appears to be just a matter of time.
“As part of our continued growth into North Texas, H-E-B is working on finalizing the purchase of property in rapidly growing Wise County to build on at a later date. H-E-B has a portfolio of real estate across the region, and we often buy property in anticipation of future growth,” a public relations representative for H-E-B told The Messenger via email.
The site purchased by H-E-B is located at the edge of the Reunion community. At full build-out, the 3,600-acre development is expected to include over 10,000 homes.
PMB Capital Investments LP is developing an estimated community worth $3.5 billion. Perry Homes, UnionMain Homes, and American Legends are some of the builders involved in the first phase, per the DBJ.
