One ZIP code in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex has again been named one of the country’s hottest housing markets.
ZIP code 75126 in Forney was ranked the 6th-hottest U.S. housing market for the second straight year in a recently released report from Opendoor. The neighborhood was the only North Texas ZIP code to break into the top 10 list for 2024.
The study assessed which ZIP codes experienced the fastest home purchases last year to compile the ranking. The ZIP codes were then ordered by the number of homes that moved toward closing within 90 days of being listed.
The Lone Star State made a strong appearance on the list.
Six of the top 10 ZIP codes landed in Texas, including the top four spots.
The Greater Houston metropolitan area took the two top positions, with ZIP code 77493 in Katy ranking No. 1 in the country and 77433 in Cypress taking second place. ZIP code 78253 in San Antonio secured the third hottest area in the nation.
As previously reported in The Dallas Express, ZIP code 75126 in Forney, roughly 21 miles east of downtown Dallas, was No. 5 in the country in 2022 but was knocked down one spot for 2023 and 2024.
According to Zillow, the average cost of homes in this North Texas suburb is just under $326,000. Values have slipped 4.3% over the past year.
“Over the past three years, we’ve seen people choose to move away from city centers in favor of tighter-knit communities, but still live close enough to commute and be close to the action. This year’s most popular areas are known for being fast-growing cities with plenty of new development, with healthy job growth in Florida and Texas in particular,” reads the Opendoor report.
While North Texas had only one ZIP code showcased in the top 10, 75071 in McKinney was not far behind at No. 12 in the nation. ZIP code 75074 in Plano was also highlighted as the seventh-best “hidden gem” neighborhood in the country for homes between $400,000 and $600,000.
