The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex has taken a commanding lead in the build-to-rent housing sector.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, close to 8,500 single-family rental homes are under construction across North Texas, making Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) prominent in this developing market.

These homes offer the appeal of a house—space, privacy, amenities—without the long-term commitment of ownership.

A major player in the build-to-rent space is ONM Living, which announced in a press release the sale of The Cottages at Summer Creek—a 196-unit community at 5401 Barlean Ranch in Fort Worth’s Chisholm Trail Corridor.

This property offers studios to three-bedroom units, ranging from 344 to over 1,200 square feet.

According to the OMN press release, the gated property also boasts a resort-style pool with cabanas, two pet parks, pickleball courts, walking trails, and a community fire pit.

ONM Living took charge of every step in bringing The Cottages at Summer Creek to life.

Working alongside its sister company, Jabez Development, they handled everything—buying the land, planning the site, designing the cottages, building the homes, and managing the community. Their goal? To set a high bar for build-to-rent properties.

Both ONM Living and Jabez Development fall under the HistoryMaker family of companies, including HistoryMaker Homes. A family-owned builder with over 75 years of experience crafting neighborhoods across North Texas, Houston, and San Antonio.

The buyer, Stockbridge Capital Group LLC, a San Francisco firm managing $33.4 billion in assets, saw value in a property that was fully leased before the sale closed. That detail speaks volumes about the demand for quality rentals in DFW.

Ty Robinson, president of ONM Living, credits its success to its location within the City of Fort Worth—proximate to major employment hubs and national retailers like Target. He’s optimistic, noting plans for seven more DFW communities over the next two years, including some in Tarrant County.

DFW’s growing job market continues to draw new residents to the area, fueling the need for high-quality rental communities. Younger generations, Millennials and Gen Z, are part of the renter segment that has favored the flexibility and modern features these properties provide, avoiding the high-maintenance lifestyles associated with homeownership.

DFW is setting the pace for build-to-rent housing, with ONM Living playing a central role.
