DataBank intends to expand its data center campus, which sits on 292 acres in Ellis County, with a $265 million project.

DataBank Red Oak—DFW10 will be the firm’s second data center along Stainback Road in Red Oak. The company plans to erect a 425,000-square-foot facility that will house a two-story data center alongside an office.

DataBank operates nine data centers in the Metroplex, covering over 620,00 square feet of space.

Work on the newest data center is expected to commence in February 2025 and be completed in July 2028. Dallas-based JHET Architects are designing the facility, reported The Dallas Morning News.

At completion, the Red Oak campus will have up to eight data centers covering upwards of 3.4 million square feet.

With AI and cloud computing booming, demand for data center space in North Texas has grown. With 591 megawatts of data center space, Dallas-Fort Worth is North America’s second-largest data center market.

In August, The Dallas Express reported that Google plans to invest $1 billion in Texas this year alone to help expand cloud and data center capabilities in the Lone Star State. Earlier in the year, it was also revealed that QTS Realty Trust plans to construct a $220 million data center facility that will occupy 472,000 square feet on Park Vista Boulevard.

Amid the AI boom, DataBank recently announced it secured $2 billion in a recent round of funding to support the construction of three facilities in the United States. They include a 120-megawatt campus in Atlanta, a 192-megawatt campus in Culpeper, Virginia, and the massive 480-megawatt campus in Dallas.

The lion’s share of the backing came from AustralianSuper, the largest pension fund in the country, with a $1.5 billion investment in DataBank.
