Braniff Airways Building Back on the Market

A historic facility in Dallas, formerly used as a school for flight attendants, is back on the market.

Davidson Bogel Real Estate has listed the Braniff International Airways’ former hostess college for sale, with the brokerage firm calling the space an “uptown redevelopment opportunity,” according to reporting by The Dallas Morning News.

Dallas-based Braniff International Airways built the 60,000-square-foot building in 1968 as a dormitory and training facility for flight attendants during the late 1960s and mid-70s. The property has switched hands several times since the airline went bankrupt in 1982 but has gone unused for nearly 10 years.

The property’s central location to Dallas’ major hubs makes it an ideal development opportunity, according to the brokerage firm.

“The property remains a landmark to this day with tremendous frontage on the Dallas North Tollway and the proximity to Uptown, downtown Dallas, and Dallas Love Field Airport,” Davidson Bogel Real Estate said in its marketing pitch, as reported by the DMN.

Located along the Dallas North Tollway at 2801 Wycliff Ave., the half-century-old building was acquired in 2019 by local real estate developer Centurion American. The firm planned to redevelop the facility into a boutique hotel, but those plans fizzled out during the pandemic.

Now the historic facility is back on the market and is reportedly being eyed by several developers as a future mixed-use development, according to Jake Milner of Davidson Bogel Real Estate.

“We have been approached from a few different groups that would convert the building to multifamily and are exploring options,” said Milner in an email to the DMN.

During the property’s heyday, the five-story Braniff building was separated into a multi-level space with dorms on the upper floors and classroom space on the lower floors. This floor plan could make the property a good candidate for a mixed-use development with residential space on top and retail space at the bottom.
