Local Republican Barry Wernick is running for Texas House District 108, challenging incumbent Rep. Morgan Meyer for the district that includes University Park and northern Dallas.
Wernick is a North Dallas native who has run his local law practice for over 25 years. In November, he announced his bid for the seat to represent “conservative values” in the Texas Legislature.
It's official.
I've filed to run for HD 108!
Now, you finally have a choice to vote for a real Republican who shares your conservative values.

“As a longtime Republican with roots in Dallas, I know that our party’s principles are necessary right now — less spending, fewer regulations, protecting families, and equal application of the law,” Wernick said in a press release.
While a Republican currently holds the seat, Wernick claimed in an interview with The Dallas Express that the voting record of Rep. Morgan Meyer leaves much to be desired.
“For the last 10 years, five terms, he’s been running unopposed [in the] Republican primary. There’s no primary challenger, so all the Republicans just vote for him,” Wernick asserted. “He seems to be pretty quiet — not really responsive to the constituents.”
“So I looked at his [voting] record, and I was shocked,” he continued. “He is the least conservative, the most liberal Republican in the whole Texas Legislature.”
Wernick claimed that Meyer is more interested in representing the “Austin swamp” than his constituents, especially on issues pertaining to taxpayer spending. He said that during Meyer’s tenure as chair of the Ways and Means Committee, spending has increased by 25% in two years.
“That’s not being a good steward,” Wernick said. “That’s not a Republican idea.”
Wernick also said Meyer has not taken the concerns of his constituents seriously regarding election integrity.
“I’ve spoken to several constituents that live here in the district with me [who] have gone down to talk to Meyer … to talk to him about what they saw in the elections and what needs to be addressed,” he explained. “He basically rebuffed anything. … He thought of it more of as a conspiratorial thing. … I can tell you firsthand as an election judge the number of ways that fraud is perpetrated and can be perpetrated on our election voting systems.”
Wernick explained that he is running for Texas House because he believes “we deserve a voice.”
“Our constituents deserve a real Republican, not to be betrayed by our representatives who claim one thing then go down to Austin and do completely another thing,” he continued. “That’s just a betrayal.”
“We don’t want our politicians playing games,” added Wernick.
“I believe in integrity and doing what I say I’m going to do,” Wernick continued. “I can’t let another decade of this weak leadership continue. I’m running for the future of my own children and for yours. We must do better.”
“I was raised with my three brothers in Preston Hollow by a single mother,” Wernick said. “The family and freedom-first values she taught us are the same ones that North Dallas residents still care about today.”
Wernick previously ran for Dallas City Council District 11 but was beaten by current District 11 council member Jaynie Schultz. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has endorsed his current run for Texas House.
The Dallas Express reached out to Rep. Meyer for comment but received no response by publication date.
