Pappas Bar-B-Q in northwestern Dallas earned a perfect health score on its latest health inspection, and The Dallas Express was on hand to check out the establishment.
Located at 2231 W Northwest Hwy, the restaurant had a very amiable atmosphere and gracious staff who were incredibly attentive during a visit by one of the news outlet’s reporters.
The reporter ordered two items: a pulled pork po-boy and a pork sausage po-boy. All in all, the meal presented proved quite appetizing. Pappas Bar-B-Q’s sausage po-boy was reportedly delicious, delivering a delightful melody of savoriness and heat — in no small part due to the sweetness of the homemade barbecue sauce. The meat itself tasted fresh and was well complemented by a toasted bun.
However, the pulled pork sandwich was lackluster in comparison in that it reportedly contained more fat than meat. Besides that drawback, the sandwich was delicious, with the meat delivering a delightfully smoky flavor in combination with its sauce.
Pappas Bar-B-Q was founded in 1967 in Houston and is now one of the nation’s largest family-owned and operated restaurants. The restaurant specializes in barbecue cuisine made from scratch and falls under the greater umbrella of Pappas Restaurants, which includes Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Pappasito’s Cantina, and Pappas Bros. Steakhouse.

The chain is named after H.D. Pappas, who immigrated to the United States from Greece in 1897. Pappas opened several restaurants in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Texas, and his grandsons — Chris and Harris — opened their own restaurant in 1976, following in their grandfather’s footsteps.
The brothers still lead the chain of Pappas restaurants, having expanded to 90 locations across Texas, Georgia, Illinois, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Ohio, and Alabama.
