After a 14-year career as a management consultant and executive with Deloitte, Neena Newberry knew it was time for her to invest in herself.
Just before the 2008 economic downturn, she founded Newberry Solutions, a leadership development company that attracts Fortune 500 clients. She told The Dallas Express that she focuses on developing and coaching high-performing leaders.
“I recognize the power of small steps, and I know that small steps can lead to big results,” Newberry wrote on her website. “This simple philosophy has helped me time and again. First, to successfully launch Newberry Solutions and, throughout the past 15 years, developing strong leaders for our national and global clients.”
At Deloitte, Newberry started out in business strategy and development. She switched to operations and then moved into capital consulting.
“I am able to look at issues from multiple vantage points in driving high performance and business results,” Newberry told The Dallas Express. “What does an individual need to do to elevate their leadership? How do we make leadership development more accessible to others? Training and development help people develop leadership skills that work at every level.”
Newberry Solutions, she said, has built a portfolio of services, programs, and tools designed to help leaders develop the confidence, capabilities, and credibility they need to get promoted and deliver results. In late 2019, Newberry launched a program called New Lens, helping businesses find efficient ways to develop people.
“From executive coaching to New Lens — our holistic leadership development program — to workshops, publications, and programs, everything we offer is practical, relevant, and easy to implement,” Newberry wrote on her website. “We put a program together that fits into the schedules of the companies who hire us. They’re able to go from awareness to insight to action.”
Newberry said most of her clients are headquartered in Dallas and Houston. “But we have companies outside of Texas, too,” she added. They include household names such as Toyota, AT&T, PepsiCo, McKesson, and ConocoPhillips. Shell was Newberry’s first client.
“The true measure of our work is the positive change we enable. What I’m most proud of, though, is that 75% of our clients get promoted. I love what I do,” she wrote on her website.
There is a common thread between the companies she serves, Newberry said. Most are running lean with a younger workforce after the pandemic and in the wake of retirements.
“Companies realize they need to invest in their people,” Newberry told The Dallas Express. “They want to do it in a way that is affordable and scalable with a customizable element to it. They recognize they have to train more people than in the past.”
She said she has continued to stand on foundational principles that drive success.
“I always go back to showing clients that development is an investment in success in good times or bad times,” she added.
Newberry Solutions has grown, she said, with an approach that cultivates genuine and authentic relationships.
“I ask myself, how do you deliver, and how do you give back?” she said. “Those are important questions. I like to be involved in the community.”
Newberry, who lives in Dallas, has volunteered for the Texas Women’s Foundation and United Way, among other groups.
“I am especially passionate about helping women,” she said. “It’s really important to me.”
Newberry said her favorite part of her job is watching people grow into new roles.
“If you can help someone see themselves — their strengths — it is a really amazing feeling,” Newberry said. “It’s about the ripple effect that these new leaders can create.”
