Arlington police say that a resident called the police late on Thursday to report a woman who had been shot in their complex in the 1100 block of Stonetrail Road, near Collins Street and Green Oaks Boulevard. Officers were dispatched at approximately 9:30 p.m., and on getting there, they found her unresponsive in a car, police said.
Tarrant County medical examiner’s office records identified the victim as Kier Solomon from Dallas. Police say she was transgender.
The Human Rights Campaign, states that at least thirty-seven transgender or gender-non-conforming people have been killed by violence in the United States this year. In 2020, forty-four people were killed. A list provided by the group states that more transgender people have been killed in Texas than in any other state. This report places Texas above California, which has a higher population, New York, which has a more visible LGBTQ community, and Florida, which recorded a high rate of murder last year.
As of Saturday, police said they have no information on a suspect of Solomon’s shooting. They also have not figured out the motive for the murder. The department said that detectives have been dispatched to canvas the neighborhood searching for possible witnesses or surveillance videos that could shed more light on the case.
