An off-duty firefighter rescued two people from a burning home on Saturday, October 30, after seeing the burning building while he was on his way to work.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a call about the burning building located in the 800 block of East 9th Street, near Jefferson Boulevard and Ewing Avenue, at about 5:30 a.m. On arrival, firefighters found the building, a two-story home, on fire. They also saw two residents who had suffered burn injuries in the home’s front yard.

According to Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans, firefighters brought the blaze under control before it severely damaged the building.

Evans noted that the off-duty firefighter was on his way to work when he saw the house on fire and pulled the two people out of the building.

Evans revealed that while the off-duty firefighter was grateful that his efforts brought about a more positive outcome than what could have happened, he asked not to be identified.

Evans added that the fire, which was deliberately started, began in the living room. An unidentified suspect has been arrested on an arson charge.
