Lee Troy Gilbert born on December 13, 1926 in Emory, TX and he entered Heaven on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at the blessed age of 94. Troy is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Betty Gilbert, parents William Gilbert and Mollissie Ratliff Gilbert, and 10 of his siblings.

He is survived by his current wife Dorothy and her children.

His Siblings: Opal, Jack, Pat and Dian, His Children: Gary Gilbert, Debra (Don) Hirschfeld and Tim (Annette) Gilbert. Great-Grandchildren: Skyler, Paige, Kaleb, Phoenix, Autumn, Logan, Noah, Jeremiah, Gabriel, Hannah and Caleigh. Great-Great Granddaughter: Aspen.

Troy proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. During WW2 he served on the USS Massachusetts and he told of stories where he was a .45 caliber gunner fighting off the Japanese as they tried to dive bomb their ship. He was proud of his sons, grandsons and great-grandsons that followed him in serving our great county.

He married Betty Cox on January 10, 1948 and were married for 69 years. He worked for Kroehler Manufacturing Company as a woodworking machinist for 40 + years after, the company closed, then a short 5 years with H&L Manufacturing. He and Betty retired to Canton Texas in 1985 to finish building their home and enjoy retirement.

Together they enjoyed tending to their gardens and sporadic farm animals. Troy also loved camping at different State Parks and camp hosting. However, what they enjoyed most was family time. Sunday lunches, Thanksgivings and Christmases were always spent out in Canton. Troy could often be found sitting in his chair reading the newspaper in the mist of all his grandkids running in and out of the house. The grandkids remember how he would get up on Saturday mornings to cook them breakfast while Granny slept. He led a life of example. He taught them to fish and care for the garden. He taught his family what being a husband and Daddy meant. But most of all, he taught his family to love Jesus. He would lead prayer for family meals, take everyone to church on Sundays, talk about different scriptures in the bible while sitting around a campfire or just simply sitting in his chair reading his Bible, often times out loud to Granny while she crocheted. Because of the legacy he has left, we believe in the scripture from Acts 16:31, “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved- you and your household”.
