OBITUARY Jorden Albert (Billy) McBay was born on October 30, 1932 in Lost Prairie Arkansas to Fred Olin McBay & Jessie Wilma (Stapp) McBay, He passed away June 8, 2021 in Garland Texas. He is survived by his siblings Charles McBay and wife Jean & Kathryn McBay Elkins, children Gary McBay, Cloyd Duckworth & wife Donna, Denise Myers & husband Jim, Danny Duckworth & wife Kym and his Daughter In Law Tammie McBay, Grandchildren, Brice & wife Crystal McBay, Brenna McBay & Derrick Reynolds, Shawna Kalisz & husband Jared, Michael Atkins & wife Hillary, Tammy Sweet & husband Greg, Shawn Myers & wife Kristi , Daniel Duckworth & wife Holly, James Duckworth & wife Jennifer, Paige Secord & husband Eric and April Carsten & husband Chris, 21 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred & Jessie McBay, wife’s Joyce (1950 to 1975) who passed away in February 1975 and Betty (1976 to 2017) who passed away in September 2017, son Steve McBay and 13 (2 children passed away before 6 mths old) brothers & sisters. Billy grew up in a family of musicians with 11 other brothers and sisters. When he was about 6 years old he heard his uncle play fiddle and started teaching himself how to play. He went on to play with his brothers in the McBay Brothers Band, played at Pappy’s Showland in Dallas, Aargon Ballroom in Dallas and the world-famous Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas, he was the lead singer for 3 nights for Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys back in the late 60’s. He was inducted into 3 different Western Swing Hall of Fames. Along the way he had offers from many big named country stars back in that time to go on the road with them but he chose his family over being away from home. QUOTE: I started playing music in the 1930’s just around the house we the children of Fred & Jessie McBay they were our on source on entertainment we had no training in music. When I got into the 5th & 6th grade music was one of the subjects available to the students in North Heights School in Texarkana, Arkansas. I just could not get any good out of the subject music … Well to make a long story short my brothers and I together got into 2 Western Swing Hall of Fames… one being in Seattle Washington Hall of Fame and one in the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame. I made a record with Bob Wills in the 1960’s, I went on tour with Bob Wills in 1964, I was his lead singer Bobby my baby brother was playing drums for him. I have been on nationwide television. I was on a syndicate television program called Austin City Limits with Hank Thompson and also made his latest CD with Hank. I am proud of all those accomplishments but the best thing I’ve ever done was to accept Jesus as my Lord and savior… He is above all else that I have ever done. J.A. (Billy) McBay
Billy loved God, his family and music with all he could give. There’s and old saying that goes: he never met a person that he didn’t like. Well, I can honestly say that about him as well as I do not know a person that he met that did not like him as well. He was funny person with a great personality who truly loved people and loved family & friends unconditionally. He had a CD that he done that was called Jesus Loves a Fiddle Player To well Jesus will now know first hand what a Fiddle Player they have now forever.
Rest now Billy McBay, you will always be loved and missed.
