Speculation is swirling that another Trump could be headed to Washington D.C’s Capitol.
Some are saying that Lara Trump could be the next Florida Senator.
Lara is the wife of Eric Trump, the President-elect’s son, who was married to Ivana Trump in his first marriage. She would succeed outgoing Republican Senator Marco Rubio, whom Trump tapped to serve as Secretary of State.
“You’re next Florida Senator,” former Florida Congressman and Attorney General nominee Matt Gaetz posted to X on December 6. He attached a video of Lara Trump speaking at her father-in-law’s Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida.

“I think Lara Trump is the right person to replace [Rubio]. He’s going to be hard to replace. I met her back when she worked at E Network and she is a hard worker; she is committed,” Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) said during an interview with The Hill on NewsNation.
“I think Lara would do a great job as a U.S. senator for Florida. … She knows how to get things done, bring people around her to be successful,” Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) said on CNN.

The former RNC co-chair has been floated as a senate candidate before. Many tongues were set wagging when North Carolina Republican Senator Richard Burr retired in 2022 that Trump, a native of North Carolina, would succeed him. However, she ultimately chose not to run.
This latest round of speculation comes as there has been a pronounced media interest in who Florida’s Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis, will appoint as the next Senator. Like most states, Florida authorizes the governor to issue a writ of election to a person he chooses to replace a senator when there is a death or resignation. Some have said DeSantis is considering Lieutenant-Governor Jeanette Nunez, Attorney General Ashley Moody, or even himself, The Dallas Express reported.
DeSantis has remained tight-lipped on whom he may choose.
“We have already received strong interest from several possible candidates, and we continue to gather names of additional candidates and conduct preliminary vetting,” DeSantis posted to X. “More extensive vetting and candidate interviews will be conducted over the next few weeks, with a selection likely made by the beginning of January.”
However, there is yet another twist to the story. It is possible DeSantis may not make the decision to appoint the next Senator, as it has been widely reported that Donald Trump is considering replacing his Secretary of Defense nominee, Pete Hegseth, with DeSantis.
