President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a sweeping technology partnership, marking a new era of scientific cooperation between the longtime allies.
The Technology Prosperity Deal targets breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, and quantum computing. The agreement aims to accelerate medical discoveries, reduce energy costs, and enhance both nations’ technological capabilities. It represents Trump’s latest push to cement American tech dominance through strategic alliances.
“President Trump signed another game-changing deal that furthers American technology leadership and strengthens ties to one of our closest allies,” said Michael Kratsios, Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. “With the TPD, the United States is exporting its world-class tech stack, accelerating scientific discovery, and advancing pro-innovation policies worldwide.”
On artificial intelligence, the deal links America’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation with Britain’s AI Security Institute. The partnership will develop common standards for AI models and share technical expertise between the two nations.
A flagship AI research program connects U.S. agencies, including Energy, Health, and the National Science Foundation, with UK counterparts. The collaboration aims to achieve breakthroughs in cancer and chronic disease research through the use of automated laboratories and shared scientific datasets.
The nuclear provisions streamline reactor licensing between regulatory bodies in both countries. Design reviews would be completed within two years, with site licensing trimmed to just one year.
Britain also pledged to end its reliance on Russian nuclear fuel by 2028. The commitment aligns with existing U.S. statutory requirements and strengthens supply chain security for advanced reactor fuels.
Both nations will coordinate the development of fusion energy, including AI applications in the emerging field. The partnership aims to create harmonized policies that encourage commercial fusion breakthroughs.
Quantum computing forms the deal’s third pillar. A joint benchmarking task force will establish trusted standards across quantum hardware, software, and algorithms.
Additional quantum partnerships promise to secure supply chains and accelerate advances in defense, finance, and energy applications. The collaboration leverages each nation’s top quantum research institutions.
