Senior U.S. officials met with Ukrainian representatives in Geneva on Sunday to review draft peace agreements, with Ukraine’s delegation affirming their core concerns had been addressed.
The White House announced that the meeting marked significant progress toward ending the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
The talks signal momentum in President Trump’s push to broker a settlement in the war that has devastated Ukraine since 2022.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio led the U.S. team alongside Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Secretary Daniel Driscoll. They conducted what officials described as “an extensive and productive meeting with the Ukrainian delegation.”
Ukrainian officials confirmed their main priorities were thoroughly addressed during the session. These included security guarantees, economic development, infrastructure protection, freedom of navigation, and political sovereignty.
“The conversation was candid, detailed, and conducted in a spirit of partnership and shared purpose,” according to the White House readout.
Ukraine’s representatives said the revised draft now “reflects their national interests and provides credible and enforceable mechanisms.” They specifically highlighted strengthened security guarantees combined with commitments on non-aggression, energy stability, and reconstruction.
Rubio emphasized America’s commitment to keeping Ukraine’s sovereignty central to negotiations. He cited Trump’s goal of ending a war “that has taken the lives of millions of people.”
Representatives of both nations agreed to continue consultations as the agreements undergo final refinement. The meeting ended with what officials called “a shared understanding that today marked a significant step forward.”
No timeline was provided for when a final agreement might be reached or when Russia will join the peace talks.
