The ongoing genocide of Christians in Nigeria has reached a breaking point, and now President Donald Trump has published a warning: act now to protect your Christian population, or the United States will respond with overwhelming force.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter….,” stated Trump in a post to his Truth Social platform on October 31. Trump labeled Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN,” citing data showing that 3,100 Christians were killed in Nigeria this year – out of 4,476 worldwide.
Trump’s follow-up post on November 1 reaffirmed his focus on the genocide and threatened to suspend all American aid to the country if Nigeria fails to stop the bloodshed.
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities. I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth echoed the call to protect Christians in Nigeria, posting on X:
Yes sir.
The killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria — and anywhere — must end immediately. The Department of War is preparing for action. Either the Nigerian Government protects Christians, or we will kill the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities. pic.twitter.com/C0v9RHGoS1

The statements from Trump and company come amid what some human rights groups call one of the world’s most underreported humanitarian crises. Since 2009, jihadist groups like Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province have killed more than 100,000 Christians, destroyed at least 18,000 churches, and displaced millions across Nigeria’s north and central regions, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
To this day, violence continues to surge against Christian groups across Africa.
In September, Boko Haram militants slaughtered over 60 villagers in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State, while burning a large portion of their village. Nigerian forces later killed around 30 insurgents in airstrikes, although afterward, Borno’s governor, Babagana Zulum, warned the military’s “numerical strength… is not enough to contain the situation.”
The crisis traces back to Boko Haram’s 2014 abduction of 276 schoolgirls—mostly Christians—from the Chibok area in Nigeria. Amnesty International says 82 of those girls remain missing to this day, while the terrorist group has since kidnapped at least 1,700 more children.
Outrage is spreading beyond politics.
On “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the comedian told Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), “They are literally trying to wipe out the Christian population of an entire country. Where are the kids protesting this? They don’t care because the Jews aren’t involved.”
Despite the increasing number of Christians being killed in Africa, the international response has been largely muted. However, Trump’s declaration and threat to cut aid to Nigeria could represent a significant shift in efforts to reduce the violence against Christians.
