President Donald Trump will attend the dignified transfer for six Army Reserve soldiers killed in an Iranian drone attack in Kuwait.
The White House announced that Trump plans to join the families at Dover Air Force Base on Saturday. The soldiers died on March 1 when a drone struck a command center in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, one day after the United States and Israel began Operation Epic Fury.
“President Trump intends to attend the dignified transfer of these American heroes to stand in grief alongside their families,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press briefing, Fox 4 KDFW reported.
The Pentagon released the soldiers’ names earlier this week:
- Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor, 39, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
- Capt. Cody Khork, 35, of Winter Haven, Florida.
- Sgt. Declan Coady, 20, of Des Moines, Iowa.
- Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert Marzan, 54, of Sacramento.
- Maj. Jeffrey O’Brien, 45, of Waukee, Iowa.
- Sgt. 1st Class Noah Tietjens, 42, of Bellevue, Nebraska.
All six belonged to the 103rd Sustainment Command in Des Moines, Iowa.
The dignified transfer at Dover honors service members killed in action. It involves a carry team from the fallen member’s service branch moving flag-draped transfer cases from an arriving aircraft to a vehicle for transport to the base mortuary. There, remains receive preparation for burial.
The process ranks among the Commander in Chief’s most solemn responsibilities.
