Former President Donald Trump has chosen Ohio Republican Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” the 45th president announced on his social media platform Truth Social.

The junior senator was first elected in 2022. He is the author of Hillbilly Elegy, a best-selling memoir depicting his life growing up in rural West Virginia and Ohio. Vance was widely considered to be a voice for the white working class after the 2016 election.

Vance has distinguished himself in the Senate by being a Republican who is sometimes supportive of labor unions like United Auto Workers, during their most recent strike.

The Trump-Vance ticket will unite Florida and Ohio, two historic swing states, under one ticket.

Trump later added in another post, “As Vice President, J.D. will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will do everything he can to help me MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
