The Pentagon announced Monday that President Donald Trump has ordered the delivery of additional defensive weapons to Ukraine — a move signaling a shift in the administration’s approach to the ongoing conflict.
Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the decision is intended to help Ukraine defend itself while the U.S. continues to pursue diplomatic solutions.
“At President Trump’s direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine to ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace and ensure the killing stops,” Parnell stated.
He added that all shipments remain subject to a broader global review framework. “Our framework for POTUS to evaluate military shipments across the globe remains in effect and is integral to our America First defense priorities.”
While the Pentagon did not specify which weapons systems are being sent or the value of the aid package, the announcement reflects the administration’s ongoing balancing act — supporting Ukraine’s defense while seeking an end to hostilities through negotiations.
Monday’s statement comes as the war enters its third year, with heavy fighting continuing in eastern and southern Ukraine and no resolution in sight.
