President Donald Trump signed an executive order launching “The Genesis Mission,” a sweeping federal initiative to harness artificial intelligence for scientific discovery.

The announcement marks the administration’s most ambitious technology program to date.

The whole-of-government initiative mobilizes the Department of Energy’s supercomputers and datasets into a unified AI platform. Federal researchers will use the system to automate experiment design, accelerate simulations, and generate predictive models across medicine, energy, and materials science.

Inspired by the legacy of the Apollo Program, The Genesis Mission represents a historic mobilization of federal research resources. The initiative integrates scientific data from the nation’s top laboratories into a closed-loop AI system designed to speed up discovery.

The Department of Energy will oversee development of the platform, consolidating its world-class computing infrastructure. The Executive Order directs the assistant to the President for Science and Technology to coordinate efforts among key federal agencies, including the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the National Institutes of Health.

“President Trump is taking a revolutionary approach to scientific research, harnessing the power of AI to propel America into the Golden Age of Innovation,” said Michael Kratsios, assistant to the President for Science and Technology and director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. “The Genesis Mission connects world-class scientific data with the most advanced American AI to unlock breakthroughs in medicine, energy, materials science, and beyond.”

The executive order tasks federal agencies with pooling datasets spanning health, energy, and manufacturing sectors. Officials expect the integrated platform to transform how government scientists conduct research and development.

The Genesis Mission comes amid intensifying global competition in AI and high-performance computing. By unifying federal computing resources, the administration aims to maintain America’s technological edge while accelerating solutions to pressing scientific challenges.

The initiative also comes as Texas rapidly emerges as one of the nation’s leading hubs for AI and data infrastructure, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Google recently announced a $40 billion investment to expand data center campuses and AI systems across the state — the company’s largest investment in any state — citing rising demand for processing power and energy. State officials say the expansion underscores Texas’ growing role in next-generation AI research and high-performance computing.

The Genesis Mission marks a major strategic shift in how the federal government coordinates scientific research, with the administration framing the initiative as a cornerstone of long-term technological competitiveness.
