Donald Trump Jr. publicly defended White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles this week amid criticism of her Vanity Fair profile and new rumors of potential changes to parts of President Donald Trump’s cabinet.

The President’s eldest son praised Wiles in an extended December 16 post on X, framing her as a stabilizing force in a White House that, under her leadership, has seen markedly less staff churn than during Trump’s first term, even as speculation persists about potential cabinet reshuffles.

Donald Trump Jr. wrote that Wiles is “by far the most effective and trustworthy Chief of Staff that my father has ever had,” crediting her with rebuilding Trump’s political operation after January 6 and resisting pressure to dilute his agenda.

“When things were tough and other supposed friends left my dad like a bunch of rats, Susie stood by his side,” he wrote, adding that she acted as an “honest broker” focused on executing the President’s wishes rather than restraining him, a dynamic he contrasted with internal conflicts during Trump’s first term.

Wiles’ own post earlier that same day said an article published in Vanity Fair that morning was a “disingenuously framed hit piece,” alleging that key context and positive remarks about the President and his team were omitted to create “an overwhelmingly chaotic and negative narrative.” She said the administration had already “accomplished more in eleven months than any other President has accomplished in eight years,” attributing that to Trump’s leadership.

The Vanity Fair profile, based on 11 interviews conducted over the past year, ignited a broader debate among Trump allies over whether senior officials should grant extended access to legacy media outlets. The controversy has dominated the news cycle in recent days, with critics arguing that the administration should have anticipated an adversarial portrayal, according to reporting from Fox News.

Several administration officials publicly rallied behind Wiles after the profile ran, even as critics seized on her remarks quoted in the article, including characterizations of Trump and comments about other senior officials.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the reporter acted “disingenuously” and that “the bias of omission was ever present throughout this story,” according to Fox News.

The dispute also exposed divisions within Trump’s broader coalition.

Journalist Lara Logan responded to Wiles’ post by warning that engaging with Vanity Fair amounted to aiding an “information war,” arguing that the outlet’s influence would persist regardless of attempts to rebut the narrative.

Physician Mary Talley Bowden, replying to Trump Jr.’s defense of Wiles, questioned her trustworthiness and raised concerns about pharmaceutical industry ties, asking why COVID-19 vaccines remain on the market.

During Wiles’ time as a lobbyist, she reportedly worked with firms connected to the pharmaceutical industry. However, Trump’s current administration has been the toughest in recent memory on so-called “Big Pharma,” with the CDC, under the leadership of HHS Secretary Robert F Kennedy, downgrading the recommendation for Hepatitis B vaccines for newborns to “shared decision making” on December 16, per a CDC fact sheet.

Despite the controversy surrounding the Vanity Fair article, Trump Jr. emphasized continuity and loyalty in his comments. He highlighted that Wiles has led the organization through a period of relative internal stability, especially when compared to the high-profile turnover that marked the early months of Trump’s first administration. That stability stands in contrast to ongoing rumors about cabinet-level changes.

Speculation has recently focused on the Department of Homeland Security, where reports have suggested the President may consider replacing Secretary Kristi Noem, though White House officials have denied such plans.

Reporting has cited anonymous former officials and media accounts alleging internal friction. At the same time, administration spokespeople have dismissed the claims as false, as previously covered by The Dallas Express.

The White House has not suggested that Wiles’ position is at risk. Instead, the President’s son has freely expressed his support for her, emphasizing that she played a crucial role in Trump’s political comeback and in the daily operations of the White House.
