In a move celebrated by conservatives, President Donald Trump has appointed former Secret Service agent and conservative media figure Dan Bongino as the deputy director of the FBI.
Bongino, known for his strong law-and-order stance, will serve under newly appointed FBI Director Kash Patel.
Bongino has a long history in law enforcement, having served as a Secret Service agent under former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
Since leaving government service, Bongino has been a vocal advocate for constitutional rights and justice reform through his media platform. His appointment signals Trump’s commitment to restoring integrity to the FBI after years of alleged political bias within the agency.
Bongino expressed his gratitude to President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Director Patel, vowing to help “rebuild trust in the FBI and ensure that justice is applied equally.”
Patel, in turn, called Bongino “the ideal choice” to help lead the agency at this crucial time, describing him as “a cop’s cop” with real-world law enforcement experience.
Democrats have opposed the appointment, claiming Bongino’s strong conservative views could politicize the Bureau. However, supporters argue that the FBI needs leadership prioritizing fairness, law enforcement integrity, and the rule of law.
Unlike cabinet-level positions, Bongino’s role does not require Senate confirmation, allowing him to begin work immediately. With his appointment, Trump continues his efforts to clean up federal agencies and put America-first leaders in charge.
