A 79-year-old man died last week while attempting to ascend a steep off-trail slope with a group of friends at Glacier National Park in Montana, joining two other victims who plummeted to their deaths in the mountainous tourist destination.

On July 25, the elderly man reportedly fell on Rising Wolf Mountain, several hundred feet above the Two Medicine Campground, park officials announced.

Friends made it to his location, yelled for help, and dialed 911, which Glacier County Dispatch diverted to Glacier National Park.

After hearing cries for help, park personnel responded. Two Bear Air diverted a helicopter from another incident to transport the unconscious patient to Two Medicine Ranger Station, where first responders were waiting to help to provide care.

The Florida resident was declared dead by personnel at the scene. His identity has yet to be revealed.

This incident comes less than a week after two climbers died in the park. Glacier National Park officials said the bodies of two other men were discovered in the park last Monday.

The two men began climbing Dusty Star Mountain on Thursday, July 21, to finish on Friday, July 22.

They went missing on Sunday, July 24, and their vehicle was discovered the next day at the trailhead by park rangers.

An air search was launched on Sunday in the Dusty Star Mountain area, on the east side approach route, where vegetation is dense and potentially dangerous terrain exists.

A Two Bear Air helicopter flew in both daylight and darkness.

Minuteman Aviation arrived on the following Monday morning and discovered the bodies of the two men, which were recovered by Two Bear Air.
