Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, is collaborating with President Donald Trump on an ambitious new AI infrastructure project called “Stargate,” but his longtime ties to far-left causes are raising eyebrows now.

Altman has been a major donor to Democratic causes. He’s made several contributions to the Democratic Party and figures like former President Joe Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey.

He’s also received large financial investments from liberal-leaning venture capitalists and tech investors for his artificial intelligence technology, which has been used by legacy and new media struggling to succeed in the current digital space.

Altman’s profile catapulted when he stood alongside President Trump in announcing a project that aims to invest up to $500 billion in the development of AI data centers across the U.S.

This initiative, launched in January 2025, aims to expand AI capabilities, create over 100,000 jobs, and position the U.S. as a global leader in artificial intelligence.

The Stargate project, which involves collaboration from tech giants like Oracle and SoftBank, signals a bipartisan commitment to technological progress and a shared interest in strengthening the U.S. in the global AI race.

Attention to Altman’s role intensified when critics like Elon Musk expressed doubts about the initiative.
