Gov. Greg Abbott’s measures to reduce unlawful migration into Texas have caused a shift in terms of the places migrants are getting into the United States, adding increasing pressure on border agents in California and Arizona.

A Fox News report cited on February 18 by The Gateway Pundit indicates that a news crew encountered three “military-aged” Syrian men who had unlawfully crossed into Jacumba, a rural area east of San Diego. According to information from U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported on by NewsNation, migrants from the Middle East are increasingly appearing at the border.

The three men told the news crew that they “love America” and came here to find “a nice life” and a “nice job.”

In a Fox News report on CBP data covering October 2021 to October 2023, CBP reported around 10,000 encounters with “special interest aliens,” a term CBP uses when discussing migrants who originate from countries the United States has listed as sponsors of terrorism.

The most recent threat assessment released by the Department of Homeland Security in October 2023 shows a sharp increase in the number of individuals encountered at the border who are on the terrorist watchlist.

“Individuals with potential terrorism connections continue to attempt to enter the Homeland. As of July, approximately 160 non-US persons in the Terrorist Screening Data Set attempted to enter the United States via the southern border this year, most of whom were encountered attempting to illegally enter between ports of entry,” the report states. “This represents an increase from the approximately 100 encounters in all of FY 2022. Inclusion in the TSDS ranges from known associates of watchlisted individuals, such as family members, to individuals directly engaged in terrorist activity.”

While the vast majority of unlawful migrants crossing the border continue to come from Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, CBP has noted an increase in migrants from countries like China. The Gateway Pundit reported that around 20,000 Chinese nationals have been encountered at the southern border so far in fiscal year 2024, and the San Diego sector saw 260 Chinese migrants in one day. A video posted by The Gateway Pundit shows a gap in the border wall near Jacumba that migrants use to freely enter the United States.

It is estimated that approximately 10 million migrants have come to the United States during President Joe Biden’s time in the White House. The administration has purportedly allowed unchecked migration through a parole process that is supposed to be a “case-by-case” policy but is increasingly used on a mass scale, as reported by The Dallas Express.

Some of the policy decisions under the Biden administration have led to the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Mayorkas will face articles of impeachment in the U.S. Senate in the coming weeks, where he is likely to be acquitted, per The Dallas Express.
