Former Vice President Kamala Harris is embarking on a nationwide book tour, a move that comes at a time when her political standing and overall approval ratings are declining significantly.
CNN, a traditionally supportive outlet of the former Democratic presidential candidate, published a critical report indicating that Harris’ net favorability rating has dropped from -5 points in October 2024 to -13 points this month.
“She is not well-liked at this particular point. The American people – they don’t want this, they don’t want her, and get this, she’s 37 points underwater with independents,” CNN senior data analyst Harry Enten said on News Central on Tuesday.
“And the bottom line is… she is way, way, way underwater. She is definitely swimming with the fishes,” Enten added.
Harris is promoting her memoir, 107 Days, which chronicles what she describes as the shortest presidential campaign in modern history. Her tour has included appearances on MSNBC with Rachel Maddow, and she has scheduled events to promote the book across the country, including Texas.
Polling also suggests waning enthusiasm among Democratic voters.
According to surveys from YouGov, Yahoo News, and The Times, support for another Harris presidential run has declined from 28% in April to just 9% as of September 2025.
Harris’ political troubles and negative views in the public eye follow recent actions by the Trump administration.
In late August, Trump rescinded the extended Secret Service protection that former President Joe Biden had granted her, returning her security coverage to the standard six-month time period most former Vice Presidents receive after leaving office. Harris’ spokesperson confirmed that her Secret Service protection officially ended on September 1.
Even in her home state of California, Harris’ numbers are slipping.
Enten and CNN added that “we’ll see whether or not this book has any big changes, but at this particular point, Kamala Harris’s political career, time seems to be running out on it.”
