The majority of state Democratic Party chairs voted on Sunday to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential run following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would no longer be seeking re-election.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Biden ended his campaign on Sunday, marking a humiliating finale to his 50-year political career.

The Executive Committee of the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC) said on Sunday that its members were throwing their weight behind Harris.

“I am proud that state party chairs, vice-chairs, and executive directors across the country are overwhelmingly uniting behind Vice President Kamala Harris. These state party leaders are on the front lines of winning elections at every level and know that the stakes of this election could not be higher. With our democracy on the ballot, there is no one more qualified than Vice President Harris to prosecute the case against Donald Trump,” ASDC President Ken Martin said.

No member of the association voted in opposition; however, some abstained for in-state procedural reasons, reported The Hill.

Biden, 81, faced pressure from within his party to withdraw from the race following a disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump last month, which led to widespread speculation as to whether he was even fit to serve out his term.

Dozens of congressional Democrats had publicly called on Biden to withdraw in the ensuing weeks. Additional reports following the debate seemingly revealed that top Democrats and major party donors were planning to undercut the president and pressure him to withdraw.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote in a letter posted on X.
