National First Responders Day occurs on Monday, October 28, 2024.

This special day is dedicated to honoring and recognizing the courageous efforts of first responders, including firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians, who serve and protect their communities.

A White House Proclamation issued by President Biden states, “Our first responders represent the best of who we are as a people. They are the police officers and sheriff’s deputies who answer our calls, ready to help, no matter the situation. They are the firefighters running toward the flames to protect our communities. They are emergency medical technicians, paramedics, 911 dispatchers, 988 crisis responders, and all the medical professionals providing emergency care, who sacrifice so much to be there for us when a crisis hits.”

Biden added, “Our first responders are everyday heroes, and we are so grateful for their service. In the wake of Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene, we witnessed the courage and bravery of our first responders firsthand and just how much they sacrifice to keep the rest of us safe, including the brave search and rescue teams who have saved thousands of lives in the aftermath of the storms.”

Many businesses offer freebies and discounts to first responders on October 28, including participating U.S. Krispy Kreme locations, who will give a free coffee and doughnut, no purchase required.

National First Responders Day may not be a major shopping event for most people, but it holds special significance for first responders.

It’s not only a day to show appreciation to their peers but also a time to accept thanks and recognition from others.

While many first responders may be humble about their achievements, one way to embrace gratitude is by accepting discounts and offers from businesses eager to show their appreciation to law enforcement officers.
