Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday praised the Trump Administration and said the two sides have been working through negotiations over the war in Ukraine.

Putin made the comments during a trip to China to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, saying that “the (Trump) administration is listening” to Russia’s reasoning behind the war.

“Now we see this mutual understanding, it’s noticeable,” he said, according to The Associated Press.

“We are very happy about this and hope this constructive dialogue will continue.”

Putin added that the two sides had reached a “mutual understanding” regarding the war, though he did not provide further details.

The comments followed a meeting between Trump and Putin at the recent Alaska Summit, where no deal was reached to end the war, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Although no consensus was reached at the summit, the sides later agreed that Ukraine would not join NATO in exchange for security guarantees — another topic Putin addressed during his China trip.

Putin said there is “an opportunity to find consensus” on security guarantees for Ukraine, though he offered no additional details, per the AP.

Despite the lack of a written agreement to stop the war, Trump has said he is determined to find a resolution quickly, claiming the U.S. is ready to act soon if no path to peace emerges.

“There will be very severe consequences,” he said, as previously reported by DX.

Additionally, the president has guaranteed that U.S. troops will not be deployed to Ukraine, assuring this would not occur during his time in office.

“I’m just trying to stop people from being killed. They’re losing 5,000 to 7,000 people a week in that ridiculous war that should have never happened,” he added, as reported by DX.

The latest remarks suggest progress remains limited, with no written peace agreement yet reached.
