Guards at a maximum-security prison foiled a holiday contraband drop when they seized a drone carrying raw steak, crab legs, marijuana, cigarettes, and a tin of Old Bay seasoning, South Carolina corrections officials said.

The package landed Sunday morning in the yard at Lee Correctional Institution before inmates could retrieve it, the Department of Corrections announced on X, using the hashtag #ContrabandChristmas.

A photo posted by the agency showed the items wrapped in a Piggly Wiggly bag inside black netting: a grocery-store pack of raw steak, snow-crab clusters, two cartons of cigarettes, plastic baggies of marijuana, and the seasoning tin.

“Seems some folks were planning an early holiday Old Bay crab boil and steak dinner along with their marijuana and cigarettes,” the department wrote.

Prison officials said the drone was also recovered, the Associated Press reported.

“I’m guessing the inmates who were expecting this package are a bit crabby,” said prison spokeswoman Chrysti Shain.

No arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation.

South Carolina prisons regularly battle drone drops of drugs, phones, and other banned items. Flying a drone near a state prison is a misdemeanor; dropping contraband inside is a felony punishable by up to 10 years.
