President Donald J. Trump has proclaimed May 8, 2026, as Military Spouse Day.

In a proclamation issued by Trump, the designation was tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence, crediting the milestone to generations of Armed Forces members and their spouses who defend American freedom.

Military spouses stand as essential partners in national defense, Trump wrote, providing home-front stability that allows service members to safeguard the homeland. They manage frequent relocations, extended deployments, and family separations with resilience rooted in devotion to their partners and faith in America’s promise.

Trump noted the military’s readiness to respond to duty and pledged continued backing for those supporting warfighters. During his first term, his administration expanded federal employment for military spouses, remote work options, and license portability, he added.

Further advances remain essential in jobs, housing, childcare, healthcare, and education to keep the Armed Forces as the world’s strongest, Trump stated. He and the First Lady saluted military spouses as patriots who confront challenges with grace, whether in peace or in conflict.

Military Spouse Day, also known as Military Spouse Appreciation Day, is observed each year on the Friday before Mother’s Day to acknowledge the significant others of military personnel.

The entire month of May was designated by Congress in 1999 as National Military Month in recognition of the sacrifices and services of those in the military.
