The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has unveiled a new video aimed at alerting the public to the severe risks posed by illicit drugs, featuring parents who have lost children to substances including fentanyl.
The video, posted on Facebook and Instagram, highlights the devastating effects of the drug crisis on families and communities across the country.
“Preventing illicit drug use and protecting families remain ONDCP’s core mission,” said Director Sara Carter. “Traffickers exploit online platforms to sell illicit drugs that can be deadly when laced with illicit substances, such as fentanyl. We must continue to teach our children about the dangers of drugs and protect them from those who seek to do irreparable harm.”
Meta, the American technology company known for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is collaborating with the office to amplify the video’s distribution on its platforms.
By working with families, communities, and private-sector partners, the ONDCP seeks to drive significant reductions in drug-related fatalities and prevent drug use from taking hold. It “coordinates across 19 federal agencies and oversees a $44 billion budget as part of a whole-of-government approach to addressing addiction and the overdose epidemic,” according to a White House information sheet.
