Over 850,000 Pura 4 Smart Home Fragrance Diffusers have been recalled nationwide after small but powerful magnets inside their covers were found to pose a potentially fatal risk to children if swallowed.
The recall, announced by Pura Scents Inc. in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects about 851,400 devices sold across the U.S. and an additional 1,100 sold in Canada between August 2023 and May 2025 at major retailers, including Target, Amazon, Scheels, and directly via Pura.com.
According to federal safety officials, the covers on the affected Pura 4 models can detach, allowing up to five high-powered magnets, three small and two large, to come loose.
“When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract each other, or other metal objects, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death,” wrote Pura and the CPSC in the announcement.
Pura also recommended that consumers who have purchased this device “immediately dispose of the existing detachable cover while waiting for the replacement cover, keep the diffusers out of the reach of children and pets, and contact Pura Scents to receive a free replacement front cover.”
The CPSC has received three reports of magnets detaching, but no injuries have been reported to date.
Devices affected by the recall can be identified by a range of serial numbers from JX230000001 to JX230801425 and JX240000001 to JX240049959, which are printed on the label above the metal prongs at the rear of the diffuser.
Anyone looking to receive a free replacement cover for these devices is invited to contact Pura at 855-394-5292 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday, or email [email protected].
