Navitas Organics is recalling eight batches of its organic chia seeds sold at Whole Foods and Amazon over potential Salmonella contamination.
The voluntary recall affects 8-ounce packages distributed nationwide with specific lot codes and expiration dates through May 2027. While no illnesses have been reported, Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.
The company announced the recall last week, noting that eight lot codes beginning with “W” are printed above the nutritional information on product packaging. The affected products carry UPC 858847000284 and will have one of the following lot codes, which consumers can find on the back of the sealed stand-up pouches:
- W31025283 – Best If Used By: End APR 2027

Customers who purchased the recalled chia seeds can return them for a full refund at their place of purchase. The company emphasized that no other Navitas Organics products are included in this recall.
Navitas Organics has established a customer hotline at 855-215-5702, available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT. The company has not disclosed how the potential contamination was discovered or how many packages were sold.
“The company is working closely with FDA on this issue. We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience caused by this recall,” Navitas Organics said in the announcement, posted on the FDA website.
