The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is facing internal upheaval after two senior officials were placed on administrative leave for refusing to grant access to representatives from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an office led by Elon Musk.

According to reports, DOGE officials arrived at USAID headquarters seeking entry to sensitive agency data but were denied by staff who cited security clearance concerns.

The situation escalated to the point where DOGE representatives allegedly threatened to call in U.S. marshals to gain access. While no law enforcement intervention took place, the disruption led to significant operational slowdowns within USAID.

Following the incident, USAID’s website and social media accounts were taken offline, and employees were instructed to work remotely. Meanwhile, Musk publicly criticized the agency, calling it a “criminal organization” and stating President Trump had agreed to dismantle it as part of a broader government reform initiative.

Critics, including senior Senate Democrats, argue that these actions pose a risk to national security and U.S. credibility in foreign aid. They also raise concerns about unauthorized access to classified information and Musk’s growing influence in government affairs.

The Biden administration had previously expanded USAID’s role in global humanitarian and development programs. With the agency now facing potential restructuring or dissolution, its future remains uncertain.

The White House has yet to issue an official statement regarding Musk’s claims that USAID will be shut down.
