Minnesota Voter Fraud Scandal Expands: Somali Ties To Ilhan Omar’s District Spark Election Integrity Concerns

Recent court developments and social media reports indicate that a voter fraud issue involving members of Minnesota’s Somali community has extended to include Rep. Ilhan Omar’s congressional district. This situation has heightened concerns about election integrity across the state.

An X post from the account @ThePatriotOasis on Monday highlighted the guilty pleas entered last month by two people tied to Somali organizations.

The case reportedly involves around 600 fraudulent voter registration applications submitted across multiple counties in Minnesota. Omar’s 5th Congressional District, which includes large portions of Minneapolis and the state’s biggest Somali-American population, was one of the heavily impacted areas.

The voter fraud revelations surface as Minnesota continues to grapple with a series of massive welfare fraud schemes that have cost taxpayers more than $1 billion in recent years. An X account claiming to represent over 480 current Minnesota Department of Human Services employees posted a lengthy thread over the weekend claiming that Gov. Tim Walz is “100% responsible,” as previously reported by DX.

The account wrote verbatim: “Tim Walz is 100% responsible for massive fraud in Minnesota. We let Tim Walz know of fraud early on, hoping for a partnership in stopping fraud but no, we got the opposite response.” It further alleged that “Tim Walz systematically retaliated against whistleblowers using monitoring, threats, repression, and did his best to discredit fraud reports.”

One of the most shocking scandals involves the Feeding Our Future organization, which federal prosecutors have described as the largest COVID-era fraud scheme in the country. Last week, the Justice Department announced charges against the 78th defendant, with at least 50 convictions already confirmed, many of which involve members of Minnesota’s Somali community.

Officials indicated that the program’s annual expenditure surged to over $104 million last year, compared with an initial budget estimate of $2.6 million when it launched in 2020, according to a separate report by The New York Times.

“Minnesota has become the land of 10,000 frauds under Tim Walz…This is a total slap in the face to the hardworking, law-abiding people of Minnesota. The Walz administration is either too incompetent or completely unwilling to clean up their own mess,” House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) told the New York Post.

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on November 21 that Minnesota had become “a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity” and announced plans to terminate temporary protected status for certain Somali nationals.

“I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota. Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing,” Trump wrote.

On NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday, when asked if he takes responsibility for failing to stop the fraud, Walz responded by saying, “We have to solve problems. And I will note, it’s not just Somalis. Minnesota is a generous state. Minnesota is a prosperous state, a well-run state. We’re AAA-bond rated. But that attracts criminals.”
