After an extensive investigation, the Nevada Gaming Control Board located an Arizona man who unknowingly won a $229,368.52 prize in Las Vegas.
On January 8, Robert Taylor played on a slot machine at Treasure Island Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he won the jackpot. However, the device malfunctioned, causing a communication error.
Neither Taylor nor the casino personnel was aware of the man’s winnings. He had already returned home to Arizona before the casino could evaluate the slot machine and confirm the jackpot.
According to a news release by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, the agency launched an extensive investigation to identify the winner.
Multiple agents conducted witness interviews, reviewed countless hours of surveillance footage, checked electronic purchase records, and examined rideshare data from the Nevada Transportation Authority before finally tracking down Taylor.
On January 28, gaming officials were able to make contact with Taylor and notify him of his winnings.
The Chief of the Board’s Enforcement Division, James Taylor, praised those who worked hard to find the winner. “I commend the agents of the Enforcement Division, particularly Agent Dan Nuqui, for ensuring that the public trust in the gaming industry remains strong by spending countless hours over two weeks to ensure that a patron is awarded winnings owed to him.”
He also added, “I’d also like to thank the Nevada Transportation Authority for their assistance in confirming the identity of the patron. This has been a great example of government working together for the benefit of the public.”
