Police in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, say a man admitted to setting fire to a building where a Wisconsin House member has an office over the very brief TikTok ban.

The suspect was apprehended by police on Sunday, according to a post they made on Facebook. The 19-year-old man is a suspect in the burning of a building that law enforcement says is leased an office to Rep. Glenn Grothman. Officers found the suspect close to the building before he admitted to setting the blaze over the potential TikTok ban.

“We are relieved that no one was injured and the office was unoccupied at the time of the fire.  Acts of violence, in any form are not tolerated, and we remain committed to protecting the safety and well-being of our community,” Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein said in a statement in the post, per the Hill.

“I am thankful for the swift response of our Officers in helping knock down the fire and also locating the suspect of this arson,” he continued.

Last week, The Dallas Express reported that then-president-elect Trump was engaged in a last-ditch effort to stop the giant social media platform from being cut off to users in the United States. The ban kicked off as planned on Sunday, January 19, seemingly illustrating Trump was unsuccessful. However, later that day, TikTok posted to X that the service was in the process of coming back and thanked Trump for his help.

“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive,” the post read.

“It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”
