A left-wing Texas group hosted an event titled “Jan 6 Justice: Democracy on the Line. How Christian Nationalism fueled the insurrection,” which focused on how to convince youths and Hispanics to vote for Democrats, according to a report.

The event was hosted by Indivisible TX 24. A Facebook flyer for it read, “January 6, 2024, the third anniversary of the Capitol insurrection, provides a vital opportunity to understand how unbridled Christian Nationalism threatens our democratic institutions.”

Local far-left activists Chris and Mendi Tackett were billed as speakers.

Roughly 70 people, a large portion of whom were elderly, actually attended the event, Current Revolt reported at the scene.

Attendees called for efforts to organize young people and “activate the Hispanics in South Dallas,” the outlet reported.

A photo of the event shows a crowd of mostly white, older attendees.

“The whole attitude of the room, including the speakers, was one of defeat,” Current Revolt reported. “Chris and Mendi Tackett spent much time on the evils of ‘Christian nationalism’ but failed to mention their own electoral failures. Calls for clear action items from the crowd were met with either the aforementioned ‘register your local minority to vote blue.’”

Indivisible TX 24 did not respond to a request for comment.

The group is self-described as a “grassroots campaign dedicated to flipping U.S. Congressional District 24 blue.” The district is largely suburban in the DFW region. Republican Rep. Beth Van Duyne won the seat in 2020. Democrats have not held the district since 2005.

“There are 800,000 teachers in Texas; why don’t we get them to vote in favor of public education?” one attendee asked, according to Current Revolt.

An event coordinator countered that the teachers in the region are largely Christians “voting against their own interests,” the outlet reported.
