LeBron James, the NBA superstar and Los Angeles Lakers forward, has made history as the first male athlete to be immortalized as a Ken doll.

Mattel announced Wednesday the release of a special edition collectible in James’ likeness. Set to hit shelves April 14 as part of its new “Kenbassador” series, the limited-edition figure, priced at $75, celebrates the four-time NBA champion’s legacy both on and off the court.

Standing one inch taller than the standard Ken doll to reflect James’ towering 6-foot-9 frame, the figure sports a custom royal blue varsity jacket emblazoned with “LJ” on the front and “LEBRON” across the back. Patches on the jacket highlight his iconic jersey number 23 — a nod to his Ohio roots — and the “We Are Family” motto of his charitable LeBron James Family Foundation.

Accessories like Beats headphones, Nike Terminator High sneakers, sunglasses, a fanny pack, and an “I Promise” wristband round out the doll’s look, capturing James’ signature off-court style.

“We are excited to bring fans a new presentation of Ken that celebrates LeBron as a role model, his icon status, lasting impact on culture, and dedication to setting a positive example for the next generation to reach their limitless potential,” said Krista Berger, senior vice president of Mattel, in the announcement.

“As a young kid, I was fortunate to have role models who not only inspired me but also showed me what’s possible through hard work and dedication,” James said in a statement about the collaboration. “Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to.”

The collectible will debut on Mattel Creations before expanding to major retailers, including Target, Walmart, and Amazon. For the first 5,000 dolls sold at Target between April 14 and April 19, Mattel will donate a copy of James’ children’s book, “I Am More Than,” to Save the Children, amplifying the partnership’s charitable reach.

The LeBron James Ken doll marks a milestone in Mattel’s efforts to diversify its toy line. It follows last summer’s release of nine female athlete Barbie dolls honoring stars like tennis legend Venus Williams and basketball icon Sue Bird. James’ figure stands apart not just for its height but also for blending athletic prowess with his philanthropy, notably through his foundation’s work supporting education and families in Akron, Ohio.

The doll’s release comes as James, now in his 22nd NBA season, continues to redefine excellence at age 40. Beyond his record as the league’s all-time leading scorer, his influence spans entertainment, fashion, and community service — qualities Mattel aims to spotlight with this collaboration.

Fans eager to snag the collectible can find it starting April 14 at select Target stores and online at Target, Amazon, Walmart, and Mattel Creations. With its detailed design and cultural significance, the LeBron James Ken doll is poised to become a must-have for collectors, basketball enthusiasts, and anyone inspired by his journey from Akron to global stardom.
