A poster on the website 4chan, an anonymous internet forum known for its permissive approach to user-generated content, recently claimed to have successfully hacked into Hunter Biden’s iCloud account.
Hunter Biden, the son of U.S. President Joe Biden, has been a source of controversy for the nation’s commander-in-chief since before he was elected president.
Currently, Hunter is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice for business dealings with foreign countries dating back to when his father was the Vice President under Barack Obama.
The investigation began in 2018 and has been examining whether Hunter and his associates violated any money laundering, tax, or foreign lobbying laws, among other potential federal crimes. He has denied any wrongdoing throughout the investigation.
In 2020, the owner of a computer repair shop shared the contents of a personal laptop supposedly belonging to Hunter Biden with media outlets, which contained scores of information on his business dealings and personal activities, including drug use, prostitution, and more.
Hunter Biden has offered a confusing string of denials about whether the laptop in question did, in fact, belong to him.
In April 2021, in a CBS interview, Hunter responded to a direct question as to whether the laptop could have been his, saying, “Of course, certainly. There could be a laptop out there that was stolen from me. It could be that I was hacked. It could be that it was the — that it was Russian intelligence. It could be that it was stolen from me. Or that there was a laptop stolen from me.”
While the contents of this latest leak have yet to be verified as authentic, Motherboard has reported that “a series of photos of Hunter Biden that do not appear elsewhere on the internet have been posted on 4chan,” which lends credence to the veracity of the poster’s claims as to the source of the hack.
According to reports, data from the alleged hack of Hunter Biden’s iCloud apparently include images and videos of illegal drug use and sexual activity, similar to what was contained on the laptop from 2020.
After an exhaustive search, only fragments of the data from the alleged hack have been found by The Dallas Express. Specifically, a video posted on Truth Social shows Hunter Biden weighing out what appears to be rocks of crack cocaine on a scale in the company of an unknown woman.
Mainstream news sites such as CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and ABC have not yet reported on this latest scandal for the president’s son, while even 4chan, typically known as a haven of free speech, has reportedly removed a number of posts containing the alleged leaked content.
NBC News published an initial report stating that the Secret Service is “aware” of a potential hack of Hunter Biden’s iCloud, but did not report any details surrounding the content purported to be discovered.
The lack of coverage on this latest potential scandal is reminiscent of the initial press reaction to Hunter Biden’s laptop leak in 2020.
On October 14, 2020, the New York Post dropped a sensationalistic article on information uncovered from the laptop just weeks before the national election in which Hunter’s father faced off with then-President Donald Trump for the nation’s highest office.
At the time, other news outlets ignored the Post’s bombshell — claiming that the implications of wrongdoing by presidential nominee Joe Biden himself in the data were scant — while social media platforms Facebook and Twitter both restricted sharing of the article.
In an opinion column for the Post a month after the November election, entitled “How the media covered up the Hunter Biden story — until after the election,” David Harsanyi concluded, “I am convinced that journalists thought the case mattered — and for this reason avoided it. They simply abdicated their professional responsibilities to help Democrats win because many don’t take their craft seriously anymore. That, we will continue to see, is a potential disaster for the nation.”
