Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush weighed in on President-Elect Donald Trump’s first White House hire.
“Susie Wiles is a great choice for President Trump’s Chief of Staff,” the Republican tweeted.
Bush was met with a largely negative response from X users. “Hey Jeb- Go fuck yourself!! Sincerely- MAGA,” Jenny Pelti wrote.
“And now suddenly I’m questioning it,” Joey Mannarino responded.
Bush is an American politician and member of the prominent Bush family, known for their significant involvement in U.S. politics, including producing two presidents. He served as the 43rd governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007. In 2016, he was a candidate for the Republican nomination in the U.S. presidential election and suffered frequent lampooning from Trump, including the charge that Bush is “low energy.”
Trump heavily criticized the Bush political dynasty during that year’s presidential campaign, and after he assumed office, former President George W. Bush returned the scathing words in kind.
Wiles is a veteran of Florida politics. She served as Donald Trump’s 2016 Florida campaign director. Later, in 2024, she was elevated to senior adviser.
Outlets such as Politico have reported that she is widely credited with “running a disciplined, professionalized campaign operation that helped Trump secure a sweeping Electoral College victory and probably a popular vote win as well.”
On Nov. 7, two days after the election, Trump tapped Wiles for Chief of Staff. This was a traditional move from the 45th and soon-to-be 47th president as Chief of Staff is usually the first hire announced.
Wiles has experience on Capitol Hill. She previously worked for Rep. Jack Kemp, R-NY, during his time in Congress.
Later, she worked as a scheduler for then-President Ronald Reagan and his Labor Department.
Wiles was on stage when Trump made his victory speech in the early morning of Nov. 6. However, she dodged a spontaneous invitation from the victor to address the cheering crowd assembled.
