Vice President JD Vance weighed in on the anti-vehicle crime spree sweeping the United States.
“My guess is that if we do get to the bottom of this, we’re going to find out that there are some very crazy, very deranged, but very wealthy left-wing people who are funding this stuff,” Vance said on The Vince Show podcast while discussing vandalism against Tesla cars.
He said attention should be directed at the root of the problem or “the guy at the top writing the checks” rather than the “foot soldiers” carrying out the attacks.
Vince and Vance are far from the only outlets and officials taking notice of the matter.
These attacks have prompted responses from other high-ranking officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi. Bondi announced there would be “severe charges” against those who participate in the “wave of domestic terrorism” in a March 20 press release.
The crests of this crime wave appear to have splashed into Texas. A recent viral video showed Dallasite Jeff Nguyen’s Tesla being keyed by a stranger at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, CBS News reported.
“I just bought it because it was an electric car,” Nguyen reportedly said. “This one is pretty fun to drive. It has really just nothing to do with politics or anything like that.”
As Tesla chief Elon Musk’s political profile rose during the 2024 presidential campaign and his subsequent role as an advisor to the Department of Government Efficiency, so did the attacks on vehicles his company produces.
Federal law enforcement and the Loveland Police Department investigated an apparent act of attempted arson and vandalism by a transgender individual against a Tesla dealership in Loveland, Colorado, The Dallas Express reported in early March.
Justin Thomas Nelson, who goes by Lucy Grace Nelson (40), was reportedly charged with multiple offenses, including the use of explosives or incendiary devices during a felony.
