J.D. Vance called for a ‘big tent’ GOP in his vice presidential nominee acceptance speech on Wednesday, Day 3 of the Republican National Convention.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, former President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he had chosen Ohio Republican Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” the 45th president posted on his social media platform Truth Social.

Vance’s speech focused on the issues affecting the country, describing the GOP platform as a big tent. He also shared details about his personal life.

“We have a big tent in this party, on everything from national security to economic policy,” Vance told RNC delegates, per NBC News. “But my message to you, my fellow Republicans, is: We love this country, and we are united to win. And our disagreements actually make us stronger.”

Vance also said the Republican party is “done” with “catering” to powerful institutions.

“We are done, ladies and gentlemen, catering to Wall Street; we will commit to the working man,” Vance said.

Vance said that this moment is not about him but is, instead, about the American working class.

“It’s about the auto worker in Michigan, wondering why out-of-touch politicians are destroying their jobs. It’s about the factory worker in Wisconsin, who makes things with their hands and is proud of American craftsmanship.

“It’s about the energy worker in Pennsylvania and Ohio, who doesn’t understand why Joe Biden is willing to buy energy from tinpot dictators across the world when he can buy it from his own citizens, right here in his own country,” Vance said, NBC News reported.

He also talked about his childhood and his grandmother, who raised him.

“Mamaw raised me as my mother struggled with addiction,” Vance said. “Mamaw was in so many ways a woman of many contradictions.”

“She loved the Lord; she was a woman of very deep Christian faith, but she also loved the f-word. I’m not kidding, she could make a sailor blush,” Vance said, per NBC News.

Texas RNC delegates reacted to Vance’s speech.

“J.D. Vance gave an incredible speech that touched on every emotion. From his personal story, military experience, law school and then business experience, he showed he is exactly who Donald Trump needs to be his copilot in this mission to save America,” Tarrant County Republican Chairman Bo French told The Dallas Express.

“J.D. Vance’s speech at the RNC was heartwarming. We learned more about his upbringing through stories of his fiery, faithful, and gun-toting mamaw. We learned of his fierce attachment to the Appalachian region and his championing passion for the Heartland,” Tarrant GOP assistant secretary Rosalie Escobedo told DX.

“Moreover, we learned of his passionate positions on issues that put Americans first. I left happier to know more about him and look forward to the upcoming veep debates. He will assuredly dominate those conversations,” Escobedo added.
