InfoWars was thrown into turmoil after longtime host Owen Shroyer abruptly quit, sparking a public clash with founder Alex Jones.
Shroyer, a longtime fixture at InfoWars, announced his exit during a live broadcast. He told viewers that disagreements with Jones had reached a breaking point and made his position “untenable.” He accused Jones of calling him “too anti-Trump” and dismissing him as a “pessimist,” according to Newsweek.
“There’s a reason why I have to do this tonight and I’m going to explain it all because that’s what you deserve as my audience,” Shroyer said. “I consider myself extremely blessed for my time at InfoWars and I’m sorry that it had to end so abruptly, if you want to say that. But about an hour ago, I got off the phone with Alex and that was it. That was it.”
Shroyer alleged that Jones had labeled him “too anti-Trump” and often dismissed him as a “pessimist,” according to Newsweek. He added that the criticism left him unable to pursue his own approach at the network. “I couldn’t do what I wanted to do,” Shroyer said.
Following his resignation, Shroyer launched a $30,000 fundraising campaign to start his own media company. By Monday, the effort had raised more than $12,000.
Jones, who founded InfoWars and built its national profile, responded with a series of online posts and on-air tirades. On X, Jones rejected Shroyer’s claim that he had not received a raise since 2018, writing, “Alex Jones Refutes Owen Shroyer’s Claim That He Never Received A Raise Since 2018 During His Recent Time With Infowars.”
During a broadcast, Jones struck an even harsher tone. “You are a rat! You are a fraud! You are a backstabber! You are a hand-biter! You are a disgrace!” he shouted, later calling Shroyer “an evil son of a b—h.” Jones declared Shroyer “dead to me” but said reconciliation was possible if Shroyer “repents to Jesus and apologizes for being demon possessed or whatever it is he is.”
Other InfoWars figures also weighed in. Host Harrison Smith defended the network’s style, writing on X: “We are not a normal, corporate media outlet. We do not do press releases and soundbites, we are in a raw and visceral fight for the future of humanity against the forces of evil. Emotions run high, blood runs hot, and sometimes things get smashed. If that makes you uncomfortable, I’m sorry, but we’re human beings. Maybe robots are more your style.”
Shroyer’s abrupt departure removes one of InfoWars’ most familiar voices. His fundraising push suggests he intends to launch a competing platform, though what form it may take remains unclear.
